I-751 Document Translation Requirements

Any document you submit with Form I-751 that is not in English needs a full English translation with the translator’s certification of completeness, accuracy and competence (8 CFR 103.2(b)(3)). Which documents your petition requires is set by the Form I-751 instructions, not by the translation rule.

Joint Financial Documents:

• Joint bank account statements
• Joint credit card statements
• Joint loan documents — Mortgage, auto loan, personal loan
• Joint lease or mortgage — Rental agreement or property deed
• Joint utility bills — Electric, gas, water, internet
• Joint insurance — Health, auto, life, homeowners

Marriage Evidence:

• Marriage certificate — If in foreign language
• Wedding photos with captions — If captions in foreign language
• Wedding invitations — If text not in English
• Religious marriage certificates — Church, mosque, temple documents

Children/Family Documents:

• Birth certificates of children — Born during conditional residence
• School records — Children’s school documents showing both parents
• Medical records — Family medical records

Correspondence:

• Letters from family/friends — Attesting to bona fide marriage
• Cards and letters between spouses — If in foreign language
• Email or chat transcripts — If submitted as evidence

Other Evidence:

• Travel documents — Joint travel itineraries, hotel reservations
• Tax returns — Foreign country tax returns if filed jointly
• Affidavits — Sworn statements from witnesses in foreign language
