These documents are requested by USCIS during immigration filings, by DMVs when you exchange a foreign license, by universities and credential evaluators reviewing foreign education, and by employers and landlords verifying identity or income. Whatever the destination, the format is the same: a faithful English rendering of the original, page for page, with the translator’s certification attached. The certification format does not change with the document type.
Certified translation pricing is usually either per-word or per-page. Per-word pricing punishes you for documents you did not write — a dense bank statement can cost three times what a birth certificate does. We price standard personal documents at a flat $19.99 per page for eligible standard certified document translation, so you know the total before you upload anything.
A page means one side of a standard document up to a normal density of text. Most certificates, licenses, and ID cards are one page each; a five-page bank statement is five pages. If your document is unusually dense, partly illegible, or heavily handwritten, it may fall outside the standard flat rate — more on that below. The pricing page explains exactly what qualifies.
The certificate is what makes a translation “certified.” It is a signed statement, attached to the translation, in which the translator or company attests that the English translation is complete and accurate and that the translator is competent to translate from the source language into English. This is the exact requirement USCIS sets out in 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), and it is what DMVs, schools, and courts are looking for when they say “certified translation.”

People often use the two words interchangeably, but they are different things. Certification is the translator’s sworn statement about accuracy. Notarization is a notary public verifying the identity of the person signing a document — it says nothing about translation quality. USCIS requires certification, not notarization, for translated civil documents. If a specific receiving office asks you for notarized or apostilled documents, confirm exactly what they need before ordering; those are separate legal formalities handled outside the translation itself.

A quote first is the better route when something about your document is non-standard. Ask for a quote if the scan is blurry or partially cut off, if the document contains significant handwriting (older civil registries, handwritten letters, physician notes), if pages are unusually dense with small text, or if you are not sure how to count the pages. In those cases a human reviews your files and confirms the price before any work begins — no surprises after the fact.
